Scarlett Johansson to Make Directorial Debut with Summer Crossing Film

Film star and Tony Award-winning actress Scarlett Johansson will make her film directorial debut with Summer Crossing, according to a report in Variety.

Based on the novella by Truman Capote, the film will feature a screenplay by playwright Tristine Skyler (whose credits include The Moonlight Room). The work is a coming of age story involving a 18-year-old girl from a wealthy family, and is set in New York following the end of World War II.


Capote’s novel was written in the 1940s, and thought lost for over 50 years. It was published in 2005.

Johansson won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in A View From the Bridge. Among her many film credits are Iron Man 2, Match Point, Lost in Translation, Girl With a Pearl Earring and the forthcoming The Avengers.
