The Geffen Playhouse has announced the eight plays in its 2012-2013 season.

Among the highlights on the theater’s main stage, the Gil Cates Theater, is the world premiere commission from Donald Margulies, Coney Island Christmas (November 20-December 30), to be directed by Bart DeLorenzo. Based on the short story “The Loudest Voice” by Grace Paley, the work introduces us to Shirley Abramowitz, a young Jewish girl who (much to her immigrant parents’ exasperation) is cast as Jesus in the school’s Christmas pageant.

Also in the Gil Cates will be the West Coast premiere of Lynn Nottage’s By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, directed by Jo Bonney (September 18-October 28); the American premiere of Joanna Murray-Smith’s The Gift, directed by Maria Aitken (January 29-March 30); David Mamet’s American Buffalo, directed by Randall Arney (April 2-May 12); and the American premiere of Yes, Prime Minister, written by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn, and directed by Lynn (June 4 – July 14).

Highlighting the Geffen’s Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater will be the world premiere of a new version of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie, adapted and directed by Neil LaBute (February 26-April 7).

Another world premiere in the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater will be Michael Golamco’s Build, directed by Will Frears (October 9-November 18), about two former friends who reunite to complete and ship a new multibillion
dollar video game. The theater’s offerings are rounded out by the West Coast premiere of The Judy Show – My Life as a Sitcom, written by Judy Gold and Kate Moira Ryan, directed by Amanda Charlton, and starring Gold (May 7-June 16).
