Julianne Nicholson to Play Ivy in August: Osage County Film

Julianne Nicholson will play the role of Ivy in the upcoming film adaptation of Tracy Letts‘ Pulitzer Prize-winning play, August: Osage County, according to the playwright, who shared the news with TheaterMania at today’s meet and greet for the new Broadway production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, in which Letts stars.

John Wells is directing the film adaptation of August, which centers on a family whose lives have splintered until a crisis brings them back together in the clan’s home and its dysfunctional matriarch.

The cast is headed by Meryl Streep as Violet Weston, and Julia Roberts as her daughter, Barbara. The film will also feature Ewan McGregor as Bill Fordham, Margo Martindale as Mattie Fae, Benedict Cumberbatch as “Little” Charles, Chris Cooper as Charlie, Dermot Mulroney as Steve, Juliette Lewis as Karen, Abigail Breslin as Jean, Sam Shepard as Beverly, and Misty Upham as Johnna.
