The National Theatre’s production of War Horse will be mounted in Australia at the Arts Centre’s State theatre in Melbourne in late 2012, according to a report in The Guardian.

Nick Stafford’s adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s book of the same name is set during World War One, as Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.

Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris have directed the production, which is currently playing the West End’s New London Theatre and Broadway’s Vivian Beaumont Theater. The Australian production will be produced by Global Creatures.
