Olivier Award-winner Chiwetal Ejiofor will star in the Young Vic Theatre’s production of Aimé Césaire’s A Season in the Congo as part of the London company’s 2013 season.

Running July 6-August 10, the work, directed by Joe Wright, explores the 1960 Congo rebellion and subsequent assassination of political leader Patrice Lumumba.

The BAFTA-winning Wright is the director of the films Anna Karenina, Atonement, and Pride and Prejudice. Ejiofor won the Olivier for his performance as Othello at the Donmar Warehouse. His screen credits include Children of Men, Dirty Pretty Things, and Kinky Boots, among others. Césaire, the noted French poet and politician, died in 2008 at the age of 94.
