Kenneth Branagh will direct Fox 2000’s upcoming film The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which will star Kate Winslet, according to Variety.

Don Roos has penned this adaptation, based on the bestselling novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Set shortly after World War II, the work centers on Winslet’s character, a magazine columnist who corresponds with a man from Guernsey. She becomes fascinated by him and the book group that he and his fellow islanders established as a cover to resist their German occupiers.

Branagh has worked extensively on stage and on screen as both actor and director. He previously collaborated with Winslet in his 1996 film adaptation of Hamlet, in which she played Ophelia. Branagh can currently be seen on screen playing Sir Laurence Olivier in My Week With Marilyn.
