The Donmar Warehouse's critically acclaimed production of Friedrich Schiller's 1800 drama Mary Stuart, starring Tony Award winner Janet McTeer and Olivier Award winner Harriet Walter, will begin performances at Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre on March 30, with an official opening on April 19. The production will be directed by Phyllida Lloyd with design by Anthony Ward, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, and sound by Paul Ardini. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The play, which is being presented in a new version by Peter Oswald, focuses on the relationship between Queen Elizabeth I of England (Walter) and her rival cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots (McTeer). The show was last seen on Broadway in 1971 at the Vivian Beaumont, with Nancy Marchand and Salome Jens in the leads.

McTeer won a Tony for her last Broadway appearance in a revival of A Doll's House and was most recently seen in the West End in God of Carnage. She was given an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II. Walter, who won the Olivier for the Donmar production, previously starred on Broadway in All's Well That Ends Well.

Lloyd is the director of the stage and film versions of Mamma Mia!. Her other stage credits include The Duchess of Malfi, Boston Marriage, and The Threepenny Opera.
