Thom Allison, Steven Sutcliffe, et al. Set for 2012 Shaw Festival

The Shaw Festival has announced principal casting and creative team information for its upcoming 2012 Festival Theatre productions.

Thom Allison will star as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in the Terrence McNally/Lynn Ahrens/Stephen Flaherty musical epic Ragtime (April 10-October 14. The cast will also feature Patty Jamieson as Mother, Jay Turvey as Tateh, Benedict Campbell as Father, Alana Hibbert as Sarah, Julie Martell as Evelyn Nesbitt, Evan Alexander Smith as Younger Brother, and Kate Hennig as Emma Goldman. Jackie Maxwell will direct, with musical direction by Paul Sportelli, choreography by Valerie Moore, design by Sue LePage, lighting design by Alan Brodie, sound design by John Lott and projection design by Sean Nieuwenhuis.

Nicole Underhay will portray ace reporter Hildebrand ‘Hildy” Johnson opposite Benedict Campbell as irascible editor Walter Burns in His Girl Friday (June 10-October 5), adapted by John Guare, from The Front Page by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur and the Columbia Pictures film His Girl Friday. The cast will also feature Neil Barclay, Kevin Bundy, Kevin Hanchard, Peter Krantz, Ric Reid and Jeff Meadows. Jim Mezon will direct, with design by Peter Hartwell, lighting design by Kevin Lamotte and original music and sound design by John Gzowski.


Moya O’Connell and Steven Sutcliffe will lead the cast of Noel Coward’s Present Laughter (May 3-October 28). They will be joined by Claire Jullien, Mary Haney, Patrick McManus, Gray Powell, Julia Course, Jonathan Tan and Jennifer Phipps. David Schurmann will direct, with design by William Schmuck and lighting design by Kevin Lamotte.

Casting for the Court House Theatre, Royal George Theatre and Studio Theatre will be announced at a later date.
