Fun Home Flashback: Sydney Lucas Sings "Ring of Keys" at 2012 Public Theater Block Party

From humble beginnings come Tony-winning musicals.

Sydney Lucas, the 11-year-old star of Broadway's newest Best Musical, Fun Home, broke down boundaries yesterday evening at the Tony Awards ceremony with her performance of the showstopping "Ring of Keys." The song portrays young Alison Bechdel, author of the graphic novel on which the musical is based, finding a kindred spirit in a butch delivery woman as she discovers her own homosexuality.

While most of last night's viewers were hearing the song for the first time, Lucas, already a seasoned pro, has been singing it for several years. Before transferring to Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre, Fun Home was just another addition to the Public Theater's 2013-14 season. Take a look at (now) Tony nominee Sydney Lucas previewing her soon-to-be signature song "Ring of Keys" at the 2012 Public Theater Block Party.
