The Phantom of the Opera Celebrates Its 12,000th Broadway Performance

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, the longest-running show in Broadway history, celebrated its 12,000th performance at the Majestic Theatre on November 28.

James Barbour currently stars in the title role, alongside Ali Ewoldt (Christine Daaé) and Jordan Donica (Raoul). The cast also includes Laird Mackintosh (Monsieur André), Craig Bennett (Monsieur Firmin), Michele McConnell (Carlotta), John Easterlin (Piangi), and Kara Klein (Meg Giry).

In addition, Linda Balgord will return to the role of Madame Giry beginning December 12, with Rebecca Eichenberger playing her final performance in the role on December 10. Then, Kaley Ann Voorhees will return as the Christine Alternate for a limited engagement beginning the week of January 23, succeeding Rachel Eskenazi-Gold.

Directed by Harold Prince, The Phantom of the Opera is based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L'Opéra by Gaston Leroux and tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command.
