Eric McCormack will play presidential contender Joseph Cantwell in the new Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man. Michael Wilson will direct this production, which will begin previews at a theater to be announced on March 6, in anticipation of an April 1 opening.

Vidal’s play, first seen on Broadway in 1960 and revived in 2000, focuses on politicians who are vying for a presidential nomination at a political party’s national convention.

McCormack was previously seen on Broadway as Harold Hill in The Music Man, and Off-Broadway in Some Girl(s). He is best known for his role in Will & Grace, for which he won an Emmy Award for Best Leading Actor in a Comedy Series.

He will join the previously reported Candice Bergen, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, John Larroquette, and Michael McKean. Additional casting will be announced in the near future.

The creative team will include scenic designer Derek McLane, lighting designer Kenneth Posner, and costume designer Ann Roth.
