The Broadway production of the musical Next to Normal, at the Booth Theatre, will play its final performance on January 16. As of that date, it will have played 21 previews and 733 regular performances.

The musical, written by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey and directed by Michael Greif, addresses issues of mental illness and a suburban family’s efforts to cope with loss. It was recently awarded the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and also received three Tony Awards.

The cast currently stars real-life married couple Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley in the lead roles of the dysfunctionally married fictional couple Diana and Dan Goodman. They will continue in the show up through its closing date. The cast also includes Kyle Dean Massey, Meghann Fahy, and original cast members Adam Chanler-Berat and Louis Hobson.

Next to Normal kicks off its national tour at Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theatre later this month, headed by original star Alice Ripley, who won a Tony Award for her performance in the show. Following the premiere, the tour will play Denver, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Des Moines, Providence, Hartford, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Chicago, St. Paul, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Charlotte, and Toronto.
