The long-running Broadway musical Hairspray will close on January 4 at the Neil Simon Theatre, after 2,641 performances and 31 previews.

In addition, Harvey Fierstein, who originated the role of Edna Turnblad -- for which he won the Tony Award and many other honors -- will return to the show on November 11 for the remainder of the run.

Based on the hit film by John Waters, Hairspray has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Whitman, and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The show is directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

The musical currently stars Marissa Perry as Tracy Turnblad, George Wendt as Edna Turnblad, Karen Mason as Velma Von Tussle, Tevin Campbell as Seaweed J. Stubbs, Ken Marks as Wilbur Turnblad, Charlotte Crossle as Motormouth Maybelle, Kate Loprest as Amber Von Tussle, Constantine Rousoul as Link Larkin, Kevin Meaney as Male Authority Figure, Susan Mosher as Female Authority Figure, Melissa Van Pelt as Inez, Niki Scalera as Penny Pingleton, and Clarke Thorell as Corny Collins.
