in 9 to 5: The Musical
(© Joan Marcus) | Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is auctioning off two orchestra tickets to the final performance of the Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5 at the Marriott Marquis Theatre, on September 6, along with a poster autographed by Parton and the cast. As of September 6, the show will have played 24 previews and 148 regular performances.
Based on the 1980 film of the same name about a trio of office workers who turn the tables on their sexist and egotistical boss, the show features a book by Patricia Resnick, co-author of the film's screenplay, and a score by Parton, who penned the film's hit title song. It is directed by Joe Mantello, choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, and stars Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty, and Marc Kudisch.
The musical was nominated for four 2009 Tony Awards including Best Original Score. Janney received a 2009 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, with the production receiving an additional 14 nominations, including Outstanding Musical. A national tour is scheduled to launch in 2010.
