Kenny Leon will direct Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly, to begin performances on November 18 at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre in anticipation of an official opening on December 8. No casting has been announced for the play, which will have Alicia Keys as one of its producers.

Stick Fly is a portrait of an upper class African American family vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard and explores parental expectations, sibling rivalry, and issues of class and race. The play has been seen regionally at such theaters as the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ, Arena Stage in Washington, DC, and the Huntington Theater Company in Boston.

Leon, as previously announced, will also direct Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett, on Broadway this fall. His other Broadway credits include Fences, Radio Golf, Gem of the Ocean, and A Raisin in the Sun. He also directed the teleplay version of the latter. In addition, he is the artistic director of the True Colors Theater Company in Atlanta.
