Broadway’s Little Mermaid to Close August 30; National Tour to Launch in 2010

The Broadway production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, will close following the Sunday, August 30 performance. At that time, it will have played 50 previews and 685 regular performances.

The musical is based on the Academy Award-winning film and the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is directed by Francesca Zambello and choreographed by Stephen Mear, and features songs by Alan Menken and his late partner Howard Ashman from the film, as well as new songs by Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. The book for the musical is by Doug Wright.

The cast currently features Chelsea Morgan Stock (Ariel), Faith Prince (Ursula), Drew Seeley (Prince Eric), Norm Lewis (King Triton), Rogelio Douglas Jr. (Sebastian), Eddie Korbich (Scuttle), Jonathan Freeman (Grimsby), Tyler Maynard (Flotsa’), Eric LaJuan Summers (Jetsam), Robert Creighton (Chef Louis) and Trevor Braun, Major Curda and Brian D’Addario (alternating as Flounder).

The creative team includes Stephen Mear (choreography), George Tsypin (scenic design), Tatiana Noginova (costume design), Natasha Katz (lighting design), John Shivers (sound design), David Brian Brown (hair design), Angelina Avallone (make-up design), Sven Ortel (projection & video design), Danny Troob (orchestrations), and Michael Kosarin (musical direction).

All tickets for performances September 1 and beyond are fully refundable at the original point of purchase. Plans are being made for a national tour, which will launch in fall 2010.
