Kristin Chenoweth to Be Honored by Boston Children's Theatre

The award-winning actress will receive the theater’s Giving Voice Award at its spring gala.

Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth will be honored by Boston Children's Theatre as the 2016 recipient of the theater's Giving Voice Award.

The award recognizes exceptional achievement by and for children in the arts, and is given annually to an individual whose professional and personal achievement serves as an inspiration to young artists and who has given their heart, talent, and spirit to empowering youth in the arts. Chenoweth will be presented with the award at BCT's Giving Voice Gala on Thursday, April 28 at WGBH Studios.

"Words cannot even begin to describe the tremendous impact and influence Ms. Chenoweth has had on the arts, and more specifically on our students at Boston Children's Theatre," said BCT Executive Artistic Director Burgess Clark. "Ms. Chenoweth's passion for her craft and her dedication to educating, inspiring, and motivating young actors, is unsurpassed in this industry. Beloved by so many for her astounding talents and contributions to the world of theater, television and film, Ms. Chenoweth has also devoted herself to enriching the lives of young performers worldwide. Our BCT family is honored to recognize Ms. Chenoweth on April 28 and to celebrate her with a rousing standing ovation!"

Best known on Broadway for originating the role of Glinda in the hit musical Wicked, Chenoweth was most recently seen on Broadway in the 2015 revival of On the Twentieth Century, for which she received a Drama Desk Award and a Tony nomination. She earned a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award in 1999 for her performance as Sally in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and has also performed in Broadway productions of Steel Pier, Epic Proportions, The Apple Tree, and Promises, Promises. Her television credits include Glee, The West Wing, Pushing Daisies (for which she won an Emmy Award), and the Disney Channel original movie Descendants, among others.
