Boston Children’s Theatre’s Season to Include the World Premiere of Dan Gutman’s Musical The Homework Machine

Also playing will be The Velveteen Rabbit, Of Mice and Men, and more.

The 2013-2014 season of Boston Children’s Theatre will include a world premiere musical as well as some iconic characters from the page elevated to the stage, with The Velveteen Rabbit kicking off the season on December 7. This production of The Velveteen Rabbit, which will run through December 22, is returning for the fifth time to recapture the hearts of Boston audiences.

Next up will be the New England premiere of Pinkalicious – The Musical, running January 18-February 2. Victoria Kann’s book, on which the musical is based, tells the story of Pinkalicious, a young girl who can’t stop eating pink cupcakes. According to Executive Artistic Director Burgess Clark “[Pinkalicious] is the perfect musical to introduce even the youngest family members to the magic of theater.”

From April 19-May 4, the world premiere of Dan Gutman’s The Homework Machine, based on his best-selling book of the same name, will be the first production of BCT’s Marcia J. Trimble New Works Program. With book and lyrics by Mark Cabaniss and music by Keith Herrmann, The Homework Machine is an interactive musical adventure for all ages. The play involves a group of fifth-grade students who are bound by one very big secret.

Performing in rotation with The Homework Machine will be an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, a story about friendship in the face of adversity and extreme circumstances.

Boston Children’s Theatre’s mission is to provide theatrical experiences dedicated to fostering the artistic and personal development of diverse youth. The organization focuses on professional training and the development of new works.
