Signature Theatre Kicks Off 2015-16 Season With The Fix
The musical comedy begins performances tonight.
Violet Chandler is at a loss when her husband, a promising presidential candidate, dies in the arms of his mistress. Not content with fading into obscurity, she decides that if she can't be the wife of the president, she'll be the mother of the president. With the help of her strategic brother-in-law, they push her lackluster son, Cal, into the limelight. Along the way they have to teach him to be the perfect citizen and ideal politician. In an unrelenting critique of the American bureaucratic system, the show presents a brutally entertaining and highly dysfunctional almost-first family.
Signature Theatre's artistic director, Eric Schaeffer, directs the show, which was written by John Dempsey and Dana P. Rowe. The cast includes Mark Evans as Cal Chandler, Christine Sherrill as Violet Chandler, Bobby Smith as Senator Reed Chandler, Lawrence Redmond as Grahame Chandler, Stephen Gregory Smith as Peter Hale, Tracy Lynn Olivera as Leslie Pynchon, Rachel Zampelli as Tina McCoy, and Jessica Lauren Ball as Deborah Pullman.
"The Fix paints a picture of American politics that's part fun-house, part haunted house," says Schaeffer. "It's twisted, and it pushes boundaries."
The creative team includes Matthew Gardiner (choreography), Jon Kalbfleisch (musical direction), Misha Kachman (set design), Hunter Kaczorowski (costume design), Ryan O'Gara (lighting design), Lane Elms (sound design), Dori Beau (wig design), Hannah Marsh (video design), and Kerry Epstein (stage manager).
Performances will run through September 20.
