Flashback Friday: Josh Groban Reminds Us Why We Love Chess

The '80s musical is headed to the Kennedy Center for a star-studded staged concert. logo

A host of Broadway stars recently signed up for a concert production of Chess, opening the inaugural season of Broadway Center Stage at the Kennedy Center this February.

Raúl Esparza (Company), Ramin Karimloo (Anastasia), Tony Award winner Ruthie Ann Miles (The King and I), and Tony Award winner Karen Olivo (West Side Story) are among the ensemble set to perform the 1988 musical, written by ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. We can dream this company will work its way to a Broadway stage, but in the meantime, we've decided to look back on (now) Tony nominee Josh Groban's performance of "Anthem" at the London Palladium (a number Karimloo will be singing in D.C.) in 2008. If this doesn't make you wish for a Chess rematch, nothing will.
