Botticelli in the Fire opens tonight at Woolly Mammoth Theatre after beginning performances on May 28.

Jordan Tannahill's play is described as follows: "Sandro Botticelli is devoted to beauty, sensuality, and pleasure. While painting The Birth of Venus, however, the limits of his dedication are put to the test by the arrival of a conservative priest leading a populist revolution in Lorenzo de' Medici's Florence. When his full-throttle, decadent ways catch up to him, will the famed artist sacrifice his work…or the life of his young apprentice, Leonardo Da Vinci?"

Marti Lyons directs a cast that features Jon Hudson Odom (Sandro Botticelli), Alyssa Wilmoth Keegan (Clarice Orsini), Cody Nickell (Lorenzo Di Medici), Earl T. Kim (Poggio du Chullu), Craig Wallace (Girolamo Savanarola), Dawn Ursula (Madre Maria), and James Crichton (Leonardo Da Vinci).

The creative team includes Misha Kachman (set design), Colin K. Bills (lighting design), Ivania Stack (costume design), Robert Croghan (assistant costume design), Christian Frederickson (composer), and Rachael Danielle Albert (stage manager).

Performances continue through June 24.
