Barbara Chisholm has been announced as the star of the world-premiere one-woman drama Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End, at Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage.

Written by twin-sister journalists and playwrights Allison Engel and Margaret Engel, the play takes a look into the life of award-winning humorist and syndicated columnist Erma Bombeck, best known for her wry and humorous take on family life. The piece draws upon Bombeck's immense body of work and conversations the Engels had with Bombeck's family, her longtime agent Aaron Priest, and Norma Born, who manages her archives.

Chisholm, recently seen in the 2014 Oscar-nominated film Boyhood, makes her Arena Stage debut as the title character, following her performance in the Austin, Texas production of the Engels' one-woman play Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins. David Esbjornson directs, joined by set designer Daniel Conway, costume designer Elizabeth Hope Clancy, lighting designer Rob Denton, and sound designers Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen.

Performances will run from October 9-November 8 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.
