EXCLUSIVE: Emmy Winner Brian Cox to Direct Premiere of Joshua Sobel's Sinners
The production will be part of the Greensboro Arts Alliance and Residency summer season.
The Greensboro Arts Alliance and Residency (GAAR) has announced that Olivier and Emmy Award winner Brian Cox (That Championship Season, Nuremberg) will direct the English-language premiere of Joshua Sobel's Sinners (July 30-August 14).
Set in the Middle East, Sinners is a love duet between a woman who is about to be stoned to death and the man she loves. Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam, an Iranian modern dancer trained and based in Paris, will choreograph. Nicole Ansari-Cox and Arash Mokhtar are set to star.
Cox is presently playing Winston Churchill in the BBC film Churchill. His Broadway credits include That Championship Season as well as Rock 'n' Roll, Art, and Strange Interlude.
In addition, Tony nominees Marla Schaffel (Jane Eyre) and Kathryn Meisle (The Elephant Man) will star in Annie Get Your Gun. Company member Sean Haberle will direct, with Justin Jacobs as music director. GAAR will also present To Kill a Mockingbird (July 22-August 13), starring Sean Haberle as Atticus Finch, Nicole Ansari-Cox as Miss Maudie, Aidan Redmond (The Cripple of Inishmaan) as Mr. Gilmer, Macy Molleur as Scout, George Sowles as Jem, and Will Pomerance Mossek as Dill.
The 2016 summer season will be GAAR's final season in Greensboro's Town Square. In 2017, the company will move into the new Elizabethan Theatre, designed by architect Hugh Hardy. GAAR is a community-based arts organization founded in 2005 as the summer wing of the Mirror Repertory Company.
