Nikki M. James has replaced Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose in the role of Cleopatra, opposite Christopher Plummer’s Caesar, in Stratford Shakespeare Festival’s production of Caesar and Cleopatra. Directed by Des McAnuff, the show will run August 7-November 9, with an opening August 17.

Rose has withdrawn due to scheduling conflicts related to the filming of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. She is currently starring on Broadway as Maggie in Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

James was originally cast as Iras in the Caesar and Cleopatra, and will also be playing Juliet in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival’s Romeo and Juliet (May 7-November 28), also directed by McAnuff. Her credits include Walmartopia, The Wiz, All Shook Up, Bernarda Alba, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
