About This Show

One of Manhattan’s favorite performers for decades, Barbara Carroll has moved easily from jazz to mainstream pop. She has accompanied such greats as Stan Getz and Charlie Parker, recorded multiple albums and was a fixture at Bemmelman’s Bar at the Cafe Carlyle for many years, where she alternated with Bobby Short. Miss Carroll is now a regular at New York’s famed Algonquin Hotel. Called “the cool jazz player… the epitome of elegance” by Time Out New York, Miss Carroll has long been regarded as one of the most fascinating purveyors of swinging jazz piano and rhythmic, expressive vocals. Appearing with her in the Royal Room is bass guru and witty lyricist Jay Leonhart, who was named “most valuable bassist” three times by the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences.
