A total eclipse of the sun starts the ball rolling in this parody of 60’s B Horror flicks. Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of Seymour, a nebbish-y florist’s assistant in the very poorest district of New York, who finds a strange, exotic plant and brings it home to Mushnik’s floral shop. He quickly names the plant after his secret love, Audrey, the register girl. Audrey is the girlfriend of a sado-masochistic dentist, Orin. Imagine Seymour’s surprise when he discovers that his new “venus-fly trap” actually prefers blood over flies! As the plant (and Seymour’s fame) grows, it requires “bigger” feasts to satisfy its appetite. The twists and turns in this laugh fest are enough to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. This production includes an incredibly engaging score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
