About the Show

In homage to the high priestess of contemporary dance, The Washington Ballet mounts an all-Twyla Tharp program. Showcasing works from two decades of Tharp’s prodigious career, this program shows off The Washington Ballet dancers at their best. In Tharp’s classic Nine Sinatra Songs, the music of Ol’ Blue Eyes leads the dancers on an erotic investigation of ballroom dancing, and her Push Comes to Shove packs an artistic wallop. Tharp’s Surfer at the River Styx (TWB premiere) reveals another dimension of her infinite imagination, a powerful sextet matched by the power of its original score by Donald Knaack.
