Scenes and Songs from ‘Fannie Lou’

Scenes and Songs from Fannie Lou presents selected dialogue and music from the new musical Fannie Lou, inspired by the life of voting rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer. The acclaimed original work was written by composer/lyricist Felicia Hunter. An outstanding event, it is being presented to mark this, the 50th anniversary year of the signing of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The performance will be preceded by a perspective-setting talk by Felicia about to social, cultural and economic conditions of the setting’s location and time period — rural Mississippi, 1962 — and a talk-back session with some of the performers will follow the performance.
