New York City
Poet in New York presents Lorca’s visit to New York in 1929, at the time of the stock market crash, in flight from an unrequited love for Salvador Dalí. Barefoot in a dark suit and a bow tie, carrying a bucket of water which he uses to slick back his hair, Lorca navigates a city of glowing watertowers and skyscraper-sized doors. Dito van Reigersberg plays 11 characters, from a volcanic Salvador Dalí to the earthy Walt Whitman to Harlem blues-singer Victoria Spivey.
