My Children! My Africa! is a poetic, inspired, and unflinching portrait of South African playwright Athol Fugard’s homeland at the height of Apartheid. Two high school students – one black and male, the other white and female – are brought together by an idealistic teacher, a man who believes education is the key to freedom. As a tenuous friendship blooms between the students, the stark reality of their world inevitably intervenes, and a tragic loss of innocence ensues – not only for the two young people, but for Fugard’s benighted home.
