About This Show

You’ve seen a naked Macbeth. You’ve seen a goth Macbeth. Now see the human Macbeth. The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company presents Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

For CSC’s Artistic Director and Director of Macbeth, Ian Gallanar, the play is about the people in the play and the extraordinary experiences that they endure, and not about the concepts that are often layered on the play. “Productions of Macbeth get so caught up in directors’ conceptualizing. I wanted to go back to the text and think about the people Shakespeare was writing about," comments Gallanar. "What fascinates me about the play is not the great cosmic wars of divinity and pure evil, but rather the human beings in the play and why they decide to take the actions that they do.”
