A musical play with book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, Carmen Jones tells the story of an army corporal stationed in a southern town where Carmen Jones is employed. She wins the corporal away from his fiancee and they run off together to Chicago. Soon, Carmen loses interest in the corporal and becomes enamored with boxer Husky Miller. Mad with jealousy, the corporal kills Carmen outside the arena the night of Husky’s big fight. This all-star concert, staged by Debbie Allen, stars Vanessa Williams, Harolyn Blackwell, Gregg Baker, and Thomas Randle, with the Harlem Boys Choir and accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Placido Domingo.
