AmericArtes! 2003

AmericArtes! is a multi-year Latin American festival weaving together the movement and the metaphor of the vibrant cultures of Latin America in a host of music, dance, theatre, film, visual, and literary arts programs. Performances and events on the Center’s main stages, Millennium Stage, and in the Terrace Gallery showcase the eclectic mix of regional cultures of Latin America, reflecting the indigenous African, Spanish, and Portuguese influences that flavor the unique arts of the Americas. In March and April 2003, AmericArtes! will highlight Mexico, the United States’ important southern neighbor. The festival aims to portray the multiple images of the soul of the Mexican people, including those on both sides of our shared border. Among the many programs will be performances by Mexico’s National Ballet and Contemporary Ballet companies, new theater co-commissions with the Cervantino Festival and the Festival de la Ciudad de Mexico, and concerts by Quartetto Latino Americano and jazz artist Hector Infanzon. The 2003 festival will also feature performances by artists from the “Andean” region in South America – Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and Chile – celebrating the multifarious cultures of the Western side of the continent.
