About the Show

In Agnes of God, a psychiatrist is appointed by the court to determine whether or not a seemingly innocent young nun, Sister Agnes, is mentally competent to stand trial for the death of an infant whose body was mysteriously found in her room at the convent. The convent’s Mother Superior is determined to protect the sweet ethereal-voiced Agnes from the doctor’s stark and probing questions. Who was the baby’s father? Who is protecting Agnes and from what? What is the real truth – was there a murder or a miracle? The answers change the doctor’s life, and the lives of the two women of faith, forever.

Thought to be based on a real-life incident that occurred in an upstate New York convent in 1977, Agnes of God was first staged in 1979 and later made into a feature film in 1985.
