Gypsy

Gypsy is the real-life story of Gypsy Rose Lee, the legendary burlesque stripper. The story primarily focuses on Rose, the overbearing stage mother who is determined to see her daughters get the opportunity she never had. She favors and puts all her attention on her daughter June, forcing her to perform in a kiddie-show act and remain nine years old, way past her adolescence until June finally runs off and marries one of the back-up boys in their show. Rose then shifts her attention to the neglected daughter Louise, who eventually does become a star, not in vaudeville, but in burlesque as the stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. She proceeds to leave her mother behind as she goes on to enjoy great success.
