A Very Contemporary Nutcracker and Other Dances

Winter Suite brings together the artists of Selah Dance
Collective and Novus Contemporary Ballet for a one-night-only performance that
blends contemporary repertory with a fresh reimagining of the second act
of The Nutcracker. Created on a fast creative turnaround, the
program highlights the dancers’ versatility, musicality, and collaborative
spirit, offering audiences an intimate experience of both new choreography and
re-envisioned holiday classics. The evening features original contemporary
works by Artistic Director Meredith Ventura alongside a modern retelling of the
beloved “Snow” and “Kingdom of the Sweets” sequences. From bold ensemble
moments to atmospheric solos and duets, Winter Suite moves
between tradition and invention, honoring the recognizable heart of the Nutcracker while
transforming it through contemporary expression. Set in the intimate black-box
setting of Center Stage Theater, Winter Suite invites
audiences to experience the magic, emotion, and immediacy of live dance at the
start of the winter season.

About Selah Dance Collective:

Selah Dance Collective, Inc (or Selah) creates and performs
worldwide original work by artistic director and founder Meredith Ventura.
Founded in 2014, Selah has captured the attention of fellow artists,
presenters, and audiences with its innovative work and challenging physicality
grounded by a focus on making dance more accessible and relatable to all
people. Known for our personality, dynamic style, and technical versatility,
Selah explores the nature of human existence through the art of movement. 

About Novus Contemporary Ballet:

Founded in 2017 by Meredith Cabaniss and Wilson Vu, Novus
Dance Project emerged as a bold new voice in Los Angeles, championing artistic
collaboration, experimentation, and innovation. Rooted in the vibrant dance
community of Southern California, the company offered a platform for emerging
artists of all disciplines – dancers, choreographers, composers, musicians,
visual and digital artists – to come together and create work that pushed
boundaries and defied convention. With a signature style that merges neoclassical
ballet and contemporary dance, Novus continues to reflect the evolving
aesthetics of a new generation of movement artists.

Student $20 (Plus $2 online convenience fee)
VIP/Donation Ticket $50 (Plus $2 online convenience fee. Includes seating in the first two center rows.)
