About the Show

This play, written in 1875 by WS Gilbert (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame), is the hilarious story of a young man who fakes his own death in order to evade his debtors but, after inheriting a fortune, finds it harder than he expected to come back to life.

Foreshadowing not only H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, and Patience, but also the comedies of Oscar Wilde written almost 20 years later, Tom Cobb is one of the funniest plays of its era, and is as clever now as it ever was.
