Fools is a light-hearted romantic comedy set in the small village of Kulyenchikov, Ukraine during the late 1800s. Originally produced on Broadway in 1981, the play delights audiences with the story of a town suffering from a curse of chronic stupidity and the school teacher who finally breaks the spell. Echoing The Producers, legend has it that the play was written when Simon promised his soon-to-be ex-wife the profits from his next play.
