Book, Music, & Lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey
See those loveable high school ‘Greasers,’ Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski up close, in the intimate setting of Westchester Broadway Theatre’s thrust stage. Grease is a musical loaded with lots of fun-loving 50’s pop culture…it makes you want to jump up and dance in the aisles!
Rydell High’s spirited class of ’59 — gum chewing, hub-cap-stealing, hot-rod-loving boys with leather jackets and D.A.’s, (Ducks-ass Hair do’s) — and their wise-cracking girls in teased curls, bobby sox, and pedal pushers. Grease captures the look and sound of the 1950’s in a rollicking musical that salutes the rock ‘n’ roll era. While hip Danny Zuko and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski resolve the problems of their mutual attraction for each other, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace and the drive-in movie. “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” “Beauty School Dropout,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night,” “Alone at a Drive-In Movie,” “All Choked Up,” and “Greased Lightnin” are among the many songs that recall the Buddy Holly hiccups, the Little Richard yodels, the Elvis Presley hip gyrations, the yackety-yacks, and the sha-na-nas that made the music of the 50s what it was!!
