About the Show
Dishwasher Dreams is a deeply moving and hilarious solo experience written and performed by Alaudin Ullah. The show carries audiences through three generations and continents—from 1930s colonial India, to 1970s Spanish Harlem, and present-day Hollywood. On the cusp of landing a major studio film role, Alaudin is suddenly called home to New York—prompting reflections on his Bangladeshi father’s immigrant journey, dishwashing days, and long-held dream of opening a restaurant. Equal parts stand up comedy, storytelling, and live music, Dishwasher Dreams explores immigration, cultural identity, legacy, and the American Dream, illuminating how those who often feel invisible are in fact vital threads in America’s tapestry.
