About the Show

Daniil Trifonov has been hailed as “the most astounding pianist of our age” (London’s The Times). His thoughtfully curated recitals are annual highlights of the Carnegie Hall season, featuring superhuman virtuosity in the service of profoundly human performances. Tonight’s recital invites listeners to join him in exploring several extraordinary-yet-underperformed gems: Taneyev’s Prelude and Fugue; Myaskovsky’s Piano Sonata No. 2; and Prokofiev’s Visions fugitives, a transportive set of miniatures. Robert Schumann’s turbulent and tender Piano Sonata No. 1 rounds out the program.
