Yoshida Brothers, Japan’s most renowned Shamisen duo make their U.S. debut! Shamisen is the guitar-like three-stringed musical instrument usually used to present Japanese traditional music. Both Ryoichiro, the older brother and Kenichi, the younger, started playing Shamisen when they were five years old.
While they were trained in classical Japanese music, they combined the Japanese traditions with the Western influence to create their unique style. Through their music director Toya (a New York-based keyboard player/composer), the Shamisen brothers will combine their Japanese traditional sounds with Damon DueWhite on drums, Jeffrey Anderson on bass, and Geoff Mattoon on sax.
The Yoshida Brothers aim is to find the meeting of Japanese traditional tunes and funky groove of America, and they will show you the completely new amalgamation of East meets West music.
