World Builders by Johnna Adams, presented by Are We In Love Productions, runs February 5–8 at 7:30 PM at 124 Bank Street Theater in New York City. From the playwright of Gidion’s Knot, this intimate production follows Max and Whitney, two strangers whose vivid inner worlds have become their refuge, as they meet during a clinical drug trial designed to dismantle their delusions. As the medication begins to take effect and their imagined realities start to dissolve, they fall in love and must confront a devastating question: “I don’t know if I can be somebody else’s world.” Directed by Klara Eales and starring Patrick Eckland and Hannah Rose Doherty, World Builders is a moving and psychologically rich exploration of love, identity, imagination, and the terrifying beauty of being truly seen.
