About the Show

Crystal Field, Executive Artistic Director
In this gripping solo play based on a true story, Rodolfo Alvarado brings to life the harrowing journey of Anthony C. Acevedo—the first Mexican American soldier to be registered as a Holocaust survivor. Captured during WWII and held in the Berga slave labor camp, Acevedo was ordered by the U.S. government to remain silent. For 63 years, he obeyed—until a final act of truth-telling changed everything.
Developed under the direction of Bill Doll and in collaboration with Pete Kuzov, Undesirable Secrets is a powerful, poetic meditation on survival, silence, and the courage to speak. Alvarado’s debut follows a celebrated NYC reading from his book Brown Son of Lorca: A Boy Reclaimed in Poems, Stories & Voice.
