About this show

The Sound of Young America is a public radio show about things that are awesome. Each week, 25-year-old host Jesse Thorn ("America's Radio Sweetheart") interviews guests from the worlds of comedy, literature, music, entertainment and the arts. Never afraid to be intelligent (or to have fun), the show has made a name for itself as the anti-A Prairie Home Companion, with irreverent wit and incisive interrogatories. Past guests on the program have included Henry Rollins, Art Spiegelman, Louis C.K., Terry Gilliam, Chuck D and the Flaming Lips. Since becoming the first public radio program west of the Mississippi to podcast in January 2005, the show has been downloaded over half a million times, making it one of the most popular podcasts in the world. It remains completely independent, without advertising or underwriting, supported only by listener donations. November 10 marks the show's first ever live-on-stage tapings. Guests for the November 10 taping include: 8:00PM: David Wain: Director of the upcoming film The Ten starring Paul Rudd & Winona Ryder and founding member of Stella & The State Mike Daisey: Acclaimed monologist and author Heather Lawless: Stand-up comic and co-host of the popular comedy night The Variety Shac Tanya Morgan: Underground hip-hop sensation 10:00 PM: Kurt Andersen: Host of Public Radio International's Studio 360, founding editor of Spy Magazine and co-editor of Spy Magazine: The Funny Years Jonathan Coulton: Comic singer-songwriter of great renown Elephant Larry: Sketch comedy in the tradition of Monty Python Perhaps a suprise guest from the world of New York comedy
