The Bessies (New York Dance and Performance Awards)

Dance Theater Workshop and the 2004 Bessies Committee present the twentieth annual New York Dance and Performance Awards. The Bessies honor outstanding innovative achievement in dance and related performance from the 2003-2004 season.

The ceremony also includes the presentation fo the Susan E. Kennedy Memorial Award. Susan, an arts administrator, whose work was largely “behind the scenes,” died of cancer in 2002. Inspired by her generous spirit and dedication, many of Susan’s friends created the Susan E. Kennedy Award to recognize, encourage and reward arts workers who have made supporter artists their life’s work. Katheleen Hughes, Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs, has been selected as the 2004 recipient.
