Oliver Sacks, M.D. will be the featured speaker at a one day conference, The Artist as Child: Roots of Human Creativity, on Saturday, April 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the French Institute Alliance Française, 55 East 59th Street, between Park & Madison Avenues, sponsored by the Lucy Daniels Foundation.
Dr. Sacks is the world renowned neurologist, humanist, and best-selling author who was portrayed by Robin Williams in the movie Awakenings.
Speakers will illuminate the profound influence of childhood experience on the work of artists and other creative individuals, both as inspiration and subject matter, and its crucial role in shaping creative expression. Joining Dr. Sacks will be Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Louise Glück; children?s book author, illustrator, and psychiatrist Lynn Reiser, M.D.; psychoanalyst and author of , Gilbert Rose, M.D.; author of Museums of the Mind, Ellen Handler Spitz, Ph.D.; and the director of the Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood, Donald Rosenblitt, M.D.
