This is not a Rock Opera. Using the Glam Rock sounds reminiscent of Bowie’s Ziggy era with an innovative film style that delights in the avant- garde, Smith Island has created an intelligent and engaging multi-media rock docu-drama that brings its audience on an all encompassing journey.
Lead vocalist Gabrielle Stubbert guides the narrative of the story’s heroine Zelda Zardoz, with a sophisticated aggression through compelling melodies, at times dark and moody, at other times deceptively playful. It is a tale of a fragile woman running away from her childhood memories. Through a journey of sex, drugs and Rock and Roll, Zelda aspires to reach redemption but gets lost along the way until finally she is made prisoner by her own tragic existence.
