With the premiere of her new work, Jane Comfort returns to her roots – the musicality of language. Composer Joan La Barbara’s vocal score, which is performed live by herself and the dancers, uses a unique vocabulary of experimental and extended vocal techniques to bridge the line between text and song. Comfort creates a work with movement that explores extremes of timing and spatial relationships, language that hovers just under meaning, and vocalizations that travel well beyond established boundaries. Performance by Jessica Anthony, Olase Freeman, Isaac Gonya, Lisa Niedermeyer, Peter Sciscioli, and others is augmented by David Ferri’s lighting and Liz Prince’s costumes.
