Stretching across culture, time, place, and imagination, Naganuma Dance presents UNbridLeD, a collection of lively, provocative works about marriage, gender, memory, and sacrifice. Exposing long-veiled family secrets–the forbidden love of a 1918 Japanese picture bride, the arranged marriage and “bride-burning” of an Indian aunt, an American housewife’s ironic plight– UNbridLeD shatters the notion of idealized wedded bliss. Artistic Director Darcy Naganuma joins forces with Eboni Hogan (2007 Nuyorican Grand Slam Poet) and multimedia designer Linda Brieda to deliver a vibrant, refreshingly kinetic evening. The explosive, international cast includes dancers from Japan, Kenya, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and the U.S.
